  Why it is called spica splint?
• It is used to provide support for thumb injuries (ligament instability, sprain or muscle strain), gamekeeper's thumb, osteoarthritis, de Quervain's syndrome or fractures of the scaphoid, lunate, or first metacarpal. It is also suitable for post-operative use or after removal of a hand/thumb cast.
  Can I sleep with spica splint?
• The word spica refers to overlapping spirals. The brace will have some small strips of velcro that wind around the thumb and attach to the wider part of the brace surrounding the wrist. This will immobilize the thumb joint and restrict motion of the wrist joint.
